Free Camping, within State Forests

State forests offer established camping areas at the following locations:

- Scrubby Creek Rest Area, within the East Boyd State Forest.

Just 15 minutes from Eden on the Princes Highway, this popular rest area is set in the beautiful natural bushland of East Boyd State Forest. Overnight camping is allowed and caravan/campervan parking areas are available.

- Newton's Crossing, within the Yambulla State Forest.

A picturesque camping area featuring a number of scenic swimming holes surrounded by trees on the junction of Wallagaraugh River and Imlay Creek in Yambulla State Forest. To get there, follow the Imlay Road and turn left into Allan Brook Road.

- Allan Brooks, within the Yambulla State Forest.

A small picnic and camping area situated only a short walk from the Wallagaraugh River. Located nearby to Newton's Crossing and provides a good alternative if high numbers are camped at Newton's.

NSW State forests are free for you to camp in. You can pitch a tent almost anywhere, except on roads, in picnic or permit areas, in pine plantations or in closed forest. Remember that camp sites cannot be booked - first come first served, and the maximum stay is four weeks.

In some forests campfires are banned in the warmer months so you'll need to bring gas cooking appliances. No fires are allowed at all on total fire ban days.

You can bring your dog but always make sure it’s under control. Also keep in mind that many forests do not have rubbish facilities, so be prepared to take your rubbish home with you.
